We will examine reasons for the gender imbalance in AVID programs. The research will focus on recruitment practices, retention of male and female students, and performance of male and female students. Methods used may include a survey of AVID coordinators, review of national AVID data, and focus groups with students. Sites with more gender-balanced AVID programs may be targeted for student focus groups.
